Qualification of Rivets

   Length of Rivet:

The thickness of segments which should be connected together is called "segments thickness" and is indicated with "S" for its technical qualifications. (For example if the segments thickness is 5 to 6.5 mm and the diameter of rivet is 4 mm, the length of rivet should be 10 mm). It should be mentioned that the longer rivets not only do not tighten connections, but also increase expenses and prolong riveting operation. If our catalogues are not available to select appropriate length of rivet, add segments thickness to the diameter of rivet to reach the average length of rivet.

   Diameter of Hole:

Selecting the proper diameter for holes (drill) which is indicated with "F", you will be able to select proper drill to make holes. Pay attention that the real diameter of our rivets is less than their named diameter. It is right to select the proper drill according to named diameter of rivet. For example the named diameter of rivet number 4 is equal with 4 mm but its real diameter is equal with 3.9 mm, so the diameter of hole or drill should be 4 mm.

It should be mentioned that if you select an improper diameter for the hole, you will face many problems because the rivet will not be placed into the hole firmly or will be placed by force if the diameter of hole is less and will be loose if the diameter of hole is more. In both cases, the connection will be weak because in a perfect connection the body of rivet puffs up and makes a lot of friction in the hole in addition to enlarging of the end of rivet. Sometimes the head of rivet enters the hole because of big diameter of hole and the tip of cut nail remains on the segments. This problem occurs when the thickness of segments is less or the segments are weak.

■     Note:

If you are connecting different segments with various firmness and thickness, it is better to place the thicker and firmer segment as the last segment to avoid entering the head of rivet in the segments.

   Quality of Rivet:

It is better that connected segments and rivets have the same quality or segments was coated with a cover to avoid corrosion. For example when you connect two steel segments with aluminum rivet, corrosion will occur between steel and aluminum by the moisture if there is no coat on the steel sheets.

If puncturing produces shavings, remove them before riveting because shavings cut the body of rivets during riveting especially when they are aluminum rivets and the connection will be loose.

According to above mentioned subjects and mechanical qualification of different rivets and shaping of materials, Parch Saz co. produces two kind of aluminum rivets, one kind of copper rivet and one kind of steel rivet.

The quality of aluminum rivet of Parch Saz Co. is made of two various alloys. One kind is made of ALMg3 alloy with more mechanical resistance and is named "Strong Rivet". This kind of rivet is packed in orange packages. The second kind is made of ALMGSi0.5 alloy with less resistance and is named "Soft Rivet". This kind is packed in blue packages and is more familiar for ordinary use especially for manual riveting machines. (For more information about tension or cut resistance of rivets refer to our website or catalogues).

Copper rivets are made of copper and with no coating. Steel rivets are made of AISI-1006 alloy of steel.
