Riveting Methods
There are three methods
for riveting:
1-
Pressing: In this method the desired shape for the
end of rivet is designed on a ramrod. The head of rivet is located in a
matrix and ramrod presses the rivet.
2-
Turning: In this method which is proper more for
hollow or semi-solid rivets, the ramrod turns and presses the head of
rivet to make desired shape.
3-
Rubbing: The ramrod turns centrifugally and presses
forcefully the end of rivet to make appropriate end on rivet. This
method is better than other methods but designing the ramrod should be
based on the qualification of rivet and working circumstances.
 
● Note:
The smooth surfaces of the tip of ramrod and rivet are
very important to make a good and desirable connection.
Riveting Methods on
Special Rivets:
Beside above mentioned subjects, special rivets require
other conditions that are very important.
For example if the rivet is used for being axis, the
hole on segments should be bigger than the diameter of rivet to not make
any friction during rotation.
On the other hand, if the difference between diameters
of rivet and the hole is too big, the rivet may bend and make an
imperfect connection. In such these cases, hollow or semi-solid rivets
are better because their diameters are more and they need less power to
be connected.
In some cases that segments should rotate around the
rivet, placing a washer with big hole between segments makes a smooth
rotation.
If the rivet should establish an electrical connection
and segments may be made of bakelite, the segments may be broken under
big pressure. Try semi-solid rivets and rubbing method to avoid this
problem.
When the rivet is used for decorations, good-looking
and smooth head of rivet is very important to attract the attention to
the location of rivet.
By the way, riveting special rivets required correct
designing of riveting procedure and selecting appropriate riveting
machine and method. The quality of rivet and its application are useful
guides.
